How it works

Brainwave Synchronizers or 'Mind Machines'

The ceremonies of many ancient cultures used the beating of drums and flickering firelight to induce trance-like states of consciousness. This "light and sound' combination was used to heal the sick, inspire courageous acts, and celebrate joyous occasions. In the 1940's, studies revealed that relaxation and a focused state of hypnosis could be induced using controlled patterns of repetitive light and sound frequencies.

Then, in 1958, the first clinical brainwave synchronizer was developed and research into the effects of brainwave stimulation began to flourish. Just a year later, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported the brainwave sychronizer could be used by women giving birth to "help make labour a more gratifying experience by reducing discomfort and the need for anaesthesia". As a matter of fact, today, light and sound technology is commonly used to treat alcohol and drug dependency, correct learning disabilities in children, and reduce stress levels in high_risk individuals.

The brain emits electrical signals that correspond to certain states of consciousness. These signals form four kinds of brainwave frequency patterns that are measured in cycles per second (cps).

Beta (14-16cps) a waking, conscious state.

Alpha (8-13cps) a relaxed but alert state.

Theta (4-8cps) related to creativity and dreaming.

Delta (0-4cps) the deepest stages of sleep.

Beta Waves are quick, low amplitude waves of 14 to 40 times per second (Hz). Beta brainwave patterns are generated naturally when in an awake, focused and alert state of consciousness.

Alpha Waves are between 8 and 13 Hz and occur during sensorial rest (eg. when the eyes are closed), intellectual relaxation, deep relaxation or meditation.  Alpha brainwave rhythms produce: peaceful feelings, warm hands and feet, a sense of well-being, improved sleep, improved academic performance, increased productivity in the workplace, reduced anxiety and improved immune functioning. It is believed that many creative geniuses, such as Einstein, were in a semi-permanent Alpha state.

Alpha/Theta Border are the Schumann Resonance and the State Five Meditation sessions. At the Alpha/Theta border (7 to 8 Hz), exceptional insights and personal transforming experiences can occur.

Theta Waves are between 4 and 8 Hz and are commonly referred to as the dream or "twilight" state. Theta is associated with hypnogogic states, REM and dreaming. Memory development is enhanced in this state. In the Theta brainwave state, memory is improved (particularly long term memory), and access to unconscious material, reveries, free association, sudden insight and creative ideas is increased.

Delta Waves are observed when in a sleeping state. As we fall asleep the dominant natural brainwave becomes Delta. Delta waves are the slowest of brainwaves spanning from 1 to 4 Hz in frequency. There is growing evidence that individuals may maintain a slightly conscious state while in Delta.

The Alpha_Theta State

Artists, musicians, and atheletes are all prolific producers of Alpha-Theta brainwave patterns. Zen monks, yogis, transcendental meditators and others have learned through training and discipline to enter into the Alpha_Theta state of consciousness at will. This deliberate "switching" off of the external stimuli literally changes their reality. It's this state of altered consciousness where they: enhance creativity and intuitive powers, produce significant gains in mental functioning and expand their potential for learning and growth.

Not only does the brain generate electrical activity on its own, but can also be made to generate specific brain patterns through a process known as " brainwave entrainment ". Simply by using the "state-of-the-art " microprocesser technology and a special combination of pulsating lights and synthesized sound frequencies Brainwave Sychronizers recreate this process.  Our little computer, with a variety of program cassette tapes, gives the user the power to enter into an altered state of consciouness, to learn new information or just cross into a mental state of relaxation and enjoyment!
